Gorillaz are the brainchild of Murdoc, self-taught demon bass svengali from Stoke-On-Trent. He, along with long-time, long-suffering friend 2-D (vocalist, keyboards), hip-hop hard man Russel (drums) and 10-year old Asian super heroine Noodle (guitar), make up the turbo-boosted quartet. The band's sound is a mixture of Jamaican dub, hip-hop, Spanish ditties and down-tempo grooves. Guest musicians on the album include Damon Albarn from Blur, Jamie Hewlett, Del tha Funkee Homosapien, Miho Hitari, Tina Frantz, and Ibrahim Ferrer. The album was produced by Deltron 3030 mastermind Dan the Automator.
