Damon Albarn visited Mexico to perform Africa Express at the Cervantino Festival and said it is one of the best places in the world to play. He confirmed that the Gorillaz exhibition House of Kong will arrive in Mexico City in 2026. His new project Manifiesto mixes cultures and languages and is inspired by the Day of the Dead, even featuring the late Proof. He is also collaborating with Latin American artists such as Trueno, Bizarrap and producing music for the Mexican artist Luisa. The upcoming Gorillaz album The Mountain (2026) was shaped by the loss of both his and Jamie’s fathers, influenced by their time in India, and includes six languages. Damon believes music can help unite people in a polarised world. He recalled performing with Blur in Mexico while extremely ill, refusing to cancel. After 25 years of Gorillaz, he says the greatest gift has been working with extraordinary collaborators, and that Gorillaz remains “the most complicated band on earth” due to its scale and visuals.
