ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Damon Albarn says the song reminds him of the early days of Gorillaz, but with a new energy that Joe brought to it and he mentions that the inspiration came after a conversation in New York with Mandami, where one phrase stuck with him: “Hope is alive.

In the story of the song, Damon and Joe are like two characters being hunted, which symbolizes struggle and emotional tension.

Jamie says that “The Mountain” (the new album) has a continuous narrative like a movie, which is why there aren't many music videos yet. They are creating a complete animated film, without using computers or AI, made by hand like in the 1960s.

Joe Talbot explains that “The God of Lying” is about addiction, loss, and lying to oneself. It draws inspiration from his own experience grieving the death of his mother and from friends facing similar struggles. The central message is that overcoming grief or addiction doesn't automatically make you a better person: growth requires inner work, compassion, and self-love. The song reflects the human cycles of lying, suffering, and redemption.

The song blends human reflection (lies, loss, hope) with IDLES' raw, punk energy and honesty; Visually, the "The Mountain" project is conceived as a handcrafted animated work, a symbol of resistance against AI and modern artificiality.
