Damon interview
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Damon explained that the track features a lot of whistling—an unusual touch considering the album revolves around themes of death. He shared that “Orange County” was inspired by Southern California and that he originally planned to record it with Peso Pluma, who has a studio in Orange County. Damon traveled there in January to work on the song, but the collaboration didn’t come together. Still, he decided to keep the track and its title, which he feels is intriguingly oblique within the context of the album.
They also discussed the concept behind House of Kong, an art installation created to celebrate the band’s 25th anniversary. Damon and Jamie admitted they’re not very comfortable with nostalgia, as they prefer to focus on moving forward. However, by collaborating with the brand Swear, they found a creative way to approach the exhibition, turning it into an immersive experience rather than a traditional retrospective. The event will run from February 26 through March 19 at Rolling Greens in downtown Los Angeles.
During the interview, they gave away tickets to their upcoming show at the Palladium. The winner was Melissa from Huntington Beach (Orange County), who was thrilled to receive the news live on air. The band jokingly asked her not to shout requests for older songs like “Clint Eastwood,” since they’ll be performing the new album from start to finish.
To wrap things up, they answered some fun questions: they agreed that a real gorilla would win in a fight against the band (outside the animated world), said they would gladly give free tickets to the Gallagher brothers if they asked, and named classic favorites from Saturday Night Live such as John Belushi, Dan Aykroyd, and Bill Murray.
