Well hello there, Gorillaz fans. Feliz Navidad, Joyeux Noël and welcome to this very special holiday greeting from me, Murdoc Niccals – Gorillaz founder, vegan turkey advocate, and former Santa-in-residence at Stoke retail park.

Couple of days ago I was working through my Christmas list crossing-off everyone that’s irked me this year – in the end it was quicker to just incinerate the whole list – when I was visited by three really judgemental ghosts! They basically told me I was a w*nker, and that to redeem myself I had to bring a candleflame of festive hope to all. At first I told them to eff off, but they said if I didn’t comply I’d meet a horrible and despairing end.

So while my elves (2D, Russ, and Noodle) sing uplifting Christmas carols in the background (tbh it’s only 2D who agreed to wear the elf outfit), I am sitting here bashing out this heartwarming holiday missive. (Also it’s only 2D singing carols, but he’s doing great). After those fairly irritating spirits finally departed and I woke up with a new sense of Christmas cheer etcetera etcetera, the first thing I did was rush out and buy the others some presents. Big bag of satsumas for 2D, chainsaw for Noodle (for her ice-carving), and a hilarious festive jumper for Russ that says ‘ON THE NAUGHTY LIST’. Then I went to the park and chopped down the nicest tree I could find, dragged it back to Kong and decorated it with glitter hair spray and four cans of whipped cream. And you know what? I feel bloody smashing, and that’s probably not just the eggnog talking. I reckon there might be something to this goodwill stuff after all!

I know that 2021 has been a difficult year for many. I’ve got 2D’s diary here that proves just that: “3rd September – got a pizza with Russ. Lost another shoe.” Breaks your heart. That’s why I’m saying, this holiday season, let’s join hands (metaphorically) and share a bit of love and hope with those around us. You’ll feel better for it – I know I do! Again, could be the eggnog talking but I’m just going to roll with it.

And so, from all of us here at Kong – from Noodle, 2D, Russ, Mike the Monkey, Madge the Yak (stuffed), and of course, my good self, I’m offering this simple phrase, to kids from 1 to 92: Love forever, love is free.
